Starting off with the not-so-strange [Avocados]. Lately I have found myself craving these interesting little fruits. The avocado also know as the alligator pear because of its pear-like shape and the rough scaly texture of its skin. You can buy them at almost any grocery store for around $1.39 each, I usually get mine from Kroger. If you're lucky they may be on sale for $1.00!
Knowing how to tell when an avocado is ripe is key. The outside skin gets darker with time and the inside turns a beautiful bright green. Make sure to pick them up and feel them for yourself. If they're firm that's how you know its just right! If it feels soft and squishy... put it back or you may end up with a brown bruised avocado when you get home. :(
Don't let the 22 grams of fat scare you away from this "super food". They also have 14.7g of mono-saturated fat, 165mg of [Omega-3] fatty acids, and 2534mg of [Omega-6] fatty acids which are healthy fats.
They taste great in Salads, on sandwiches, in wraps and my favorite personal... Guacamole!
